The new Land Rover Defender is the official support vehicle for the upcoming Red Bull X-Alps 2021.

Land Rover will be supplying a convoy of their newly launched Defender 110 SUVs as support vehicles for the upcoming Red Bull X-Alps 2021.

The Red Bull X-Alps is also known as the world’s toughest adventure race, where paragliding athletes hike and paraglide over the alpine regions of Austria, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and France.

As per the rules of Red Bull X-Alps, all athletes participating must cover the 1000+km route either by foot or by paragliding. Each participating team consists of one athlete and one supporter, and the latter’s duty is to support the athlete with technical advice and nutritional support.

In a race where only the footsteps and gliding through air counts, the Land Rover Defender comes into the picture as a support vehicle for these teams. 

During this gruelling race, the Land Rover Defender will not only carry the vital supplies and equipments for the athlete and the team, but it will be their accommodation as well. For this, the Defender is equipped with Autohome roof tents for the crew to take a rest or sleep between the competition rounds. Other accessories include a Portable Rinse system, Exterior-Side mounted gear carriers, Air Compressors, and an integrated 4G Wi-Fi connectivity.

The Land Rover Defender is available with four engine options in UAE. There is a highly frugal 240hp 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine with 650Nm of torque, an efficient 300PS 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 400Nm of torque, a more powerful 400PS 3.0-litre turbocharged mild-hybrid petrol engine with 550Nm of torque, and the top-of-the-line 5.0-litre supercharged V8 with 525PS and 625Nm of torque. 

However, we are not sure about the engine under the bonnet of these support vehicles for the Red Bull X-Alps event. In UAE, the price for a Land Rover Defender starts from AED 209,790.00 for the base version.

Thoughts.

The world’s toughest race requires an even tougher support vehicle. The Land Rover Defender is one of the best off-road vehicles available in the world today, if this cannot cope-up with the challenge I don’t know what will.
