Lexus froze their LC Convertible and took it for a spin.

Lexus had recently tested their LC Convertible inside an industrial-grade deep freezer and exposed their convertible sports car to -18 degree Celsius.

The test was conducted inside a large climatic chamber measuring almost 468,000 litres in volume. This large climatic chamber is extensively used to test the endurance of defence equipment and vehicles, and it is located at the Millbrook Proving Ground in the United Kingdom.

As part of the exercise, Lexus engineers kept the roof open and sprayed a layer of Water before freezing the car for 12-hours. This process forms a thin layer of ice all over the car, thus putting the car’s interior parts under an enormous amount of stress, this includes both the cosmetic and mechanical bits.

After 12-hours of exposure to -18֠ C temperature, professional stunt driver Paul Swift took the car to the Millbrook proving grounds. The high-performance drive around the test track with its challenging route barely affected the Lexus.

The test driver noted that the Lexus’s 457hp LC Convertible had no adverse effects post freezing, as all the gauges and controls immediately sprung back to life after the car was turned ON. The test drive also mentioned Lexus’s Climate Concierge feature that detected the inhospitable conditions of the cabin and responded to it by automatically heating the cabin to make it comfortable.

For me, this whole test was like proving the existence of gravity to kids. The quality is always there with Lexus; all they did was ‘drop an apple’ to prove it.
