Bentley is gearing up to phase out IC engines.
Bentley has planned to phase out Internal Combustion engines to become an EV-only luxury car brand and as part of the plan, Bentley is gearing up to unveil their first-ever electric SUV by 2025.
With the launch of Bentley’s all-new electric SUV, Bentley will not only lay the foundation for the brand’s transition to becoming a complete luxury-EV manufacturer but will also lead the way for other manufacturers to follow the path.
To develop this fully electric SUV, Bentley has once again joined hands with Audi and the resulting new electric SUV will be underpinned by Volkswagen’s Artemis Platform.
However, Bentley is quick to point out that they still have some concerns regarding the weight of the vehicle, as electric vehicles tend to be significantly heavier than their conventionally powered counterparts, but they are also positive about the rapid advancements of EV technology in future, thus paving way for lighter EVs with better aerodynamics.
As an initial step towards lower emissions, Bentley is said to be working on a plug-in hybrid version of the Flying Spur and Continental GT. Some Sources indicate that these latest plug-in hybrid models of the Flying Spur and Continental GT are in the final stages of development and will hit the showrooms before 2022
As most brands under the Volkswagen roof has already decided to take the greener route, it is not a surprising decision from Bentley to follow a similar path and I believe that this decision from Bentley is an example for other automobile manufacturers to take bold decisions and commit themselves to build future proof cars.
