Land Rover Defender bags the 2021 World Car Design of the Year award.

The World Car Design of the Year award is meant for manufactures who push the boundaries in automotive design with new innovation and style. For 2021, the World Car Design of the Year award is won by the Land Rover Defender, making JLR 6-time winner of this prestigious award since its official introduction back in 2004. 

“New Defender is influenced by its past but is not constrained by it and we are delighted it has been honored with this award,” said Professor. Gerry McGovern OBE, Chief Creative Officer, Jaguar land Rover. He also added that the new Land rover defender’s design is a compelling 4x4 that resonates with customers on an emotional level.

The design panel is made of seven highly respected world design experts. These experts review each car and make a short-list for juror’s final vote. The voting is done by 93 journalists from 28 countries.

The design experts are Gernot Bracht (Pforzheim Design School, Germany.), Ian Cullum (Director of Design for CULLUM, United Kingdom.), Gert Hildebrand (Owner of Hildebrand design, Germany.) Patrick le Quement (Designer and President of the Strategy Committee at The Sustainable Design School, France.), Tom Matano (Academy of Art University, USA), Victor Nacif (Chief Creative Officer of Brojure.com and Design Instructor at NewSchool of Architecture and Design) and Shiro Nakamura (CEO of Shiro Nakamura Design Associates Inc., Japan.)

The 2022 awards season and the 18th edition of the Road to the World Car Awards will begin at the New York International Auto Show on 19th August 2021 at the newly renovated Jacob Javits Center.

The upcoming 18th edition of the Road to the World Car Awards will witness the introduction of a new category called “World Electric Vehicle of the Year” aimed to recognize, support, and celebrate the global transition to electric vehicles.

World Car Design of the Year award is one of the prestigious awards in the automotive industry and considering the fact that JLR has bagged 6 awards is not a small feat. It shows the dedication and passion of the JLR group to consistently push the boundaries of design and innovation.
