India’s largest Automobile manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki shuts down one of its manufacturing plants to make oxygen.
India’s largest automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki has decided to shut down one of its manufacturing plants to make oxygen available for more people.
The press statement released by Maruti Suzuki stated "As part of the car manufacturing process, Maruti Suzuki uses a small amount of oxygen in its factories while relatively much larger quantities are used by the manufacturers of components. In the current situation, we believe that all available oxygen should be used to save lives,"
Maruti Suzuki even had to postpone its annual maintenance shutdown from May 1st to May 9th of May to facilitate the plant shutdown in order to save more oxygen. This decision from Maruti Suzuki is more than welcomed by the whole country, as the country faces the second wave of the COVID-19 virus.
The second wave of Corona pandemic has hit the country extremely hard with 3.6+ lakh new cases and daily casualties reaching close to 3000 in the last 24-hours. whereas the total recorded cases exceed 1.79 crores.
With numbers exceeding three lakh cases on daily basis since the last seven days, India has been struggling to produce enough oxygen for its patients. The total death toll in India currently hovers over two lakhs, making this one of the most fatal pandemics to ever hit India.
The decision from Maruti Suzuki to shut down one of its plant to support the medical needs in India during this pandemic is not only welcomed by the people and government of India but also sets an example for other manufacturers to follow.
