How not to buy a new Car?
Buying a new car is much more confusing nowadays, thanks to a wide variety of options. The biggest mistake people make while purchasing a car is that they try to convince themselves. The moment you start convincing yourself, it means that you have started to settle for something you don’t want or need.
1 . Your friend’s needs and
priorities are not your needs and priorities.
Taking advice, suggestions, and
user feedback is a good thing, but you should prioritise your needs and
preferences first. Even if your friend has similar priorities and lifestyle as
yours, it is always better to take time and understand what your needs and
preferences are before buying a car based on user feedback.
2 . Buying a car based on Resale
value.
This is possibly one of the
worst things you can do while buying a car. You should remember that you are
buying a car for yourself and your needs, not for selling it after. Choose a
car that suits you well which is also within your budget.
3 . Boot space is more important
than steering feel.
Most automotive journalist talk
about ‘driving pleasure’, it is not an important factor unless you are buying
something cool.
4 . Feature list.
Don’t fall for the feature list.
Modern cars come with features you do not even know whether you need them. I
will give you an example, Cars built in European countries may come with heated
accessories like seats and windshield, which are completely unnecessary for
Middle Eastern countries.
5 . Test-drive as you own it.
If you are a gentle driver, there
is no need for you to drive rashly and explore the limits of patience in the
sales guy. If you are not satisfied with the test drive, ask the representative
for a longer test drive or request for a test drive on your usual route, most
salesperson will be more than happy to give you longer test drives.
6 . Don’t shy away from saying
‘No’.
When you step into a dealership,
be ready to receive calls regarding your purchase and every salesperson out
there is trained to pursue and sell you their car, so don’t shy away from
saying ‘No’ if you don’t like the car.
