Tyres. How important they are and How to upgrade?
Tyres are one of the most under appreciated automotive products. Most manufacturers save lots of money by using “Adequate” tyres instead of better tyres in the market.
Most of the budget car segment in the automotive market is dominated by Japanese and Korean brands. As in the name, budget cars are designed from ground up to be as efficient and cost-effective as possible to be more affordable for purchase and running.
To keep the cost low, automotive manufacturers try to reduce the overall build cost by cutting few corners here and there. One of these corners is the set of tyres that come with the car.
Most of the factory fitted tyres limit the capability of vehicles much more than we think. So, if you buy a budget car, the best thing you can gift yourself is a set of new tyres.
To buy a new set of tyres, it is very important that you set your priorities before making the purchase because there are different types of tyres available and each have their qualities.
Some tyres are built to improve the fuel economy, while some types are designed to improve comfort or grip. So, it is important that you set your priority according to your requirement.
If you own an SUV and use it predominantly on the road, it is not necessary that you should buy “knobby” tyres. The knobby tyres may improve the looks, but it can drastically reduce the overall comfort and grip levels on the tarmac.
Some people buy high-performance tyres for their budget hatchback even though their usage is limited to short office commutes. These types of modifications don’t harm the car in any matter, but it is an unnecessary modification.
