The new Mercedes C-Class.
Last year Mercedes unveiled their flagship model-the Mercedes S-Class. It is easily one of the best cars money can buy now, and the best car in its segment by miles.
Mercedes has now unveiled the new C-Class and it looks sleeker than the model it replaces. The new C-Class does look like a shrunken S-Class but not as much as the previous generation C-Class though.
The interior looks like a variation of the new S-Class with its large 11.9-inch infotainment touchscreen display and 12.3-inch instrument display. The interior not only looks futuristic but also a big step-up from the model it replaces.
However, the biggest change so far happened is under the bonnet. To satisfy the ever-tightening pollution norms, Mercedes has chosen not to offer engines with more than 4-cylinders. To further satisfy the environmentalists globally, all engines will come with a 48-Volt electrical system and an ISG (Integrates Starter Generator).
With the ISG, Mercedes has claimed a substantial increase in fuel efficiency while lowering the emissions. The second-generation ISG-motor is capable of producing 20PS and 200Nm of torque when required, helping the new Mercedes C-Class not only to start instantly and smoothly but also save fuel while ‘gliding’.
There are currently three petrol engines and two diesel engines on offer. The basic petrol variant is the C180, which uses a 1.5L 4-cylinder engine capable of 170PS and 250Nm of torque. The C200 variant uses the same 1.5L unit but produces slightly more power and torque at 204PS and 300Nm respectively. The top of the range petrol model is the C300, which uses a larger 2.0L 4-cylinder engine and it can produce 258PS and 400Nm of torque.
The diesel engine is a 2.0L unit available in two different states of tune. The C220d is capable of pushing 200PS and 440Nm of torque, while the more performance focused C300d can produce 265PS and 550Nm of torque.
All these engines come mated to a 9-Speed automatic transmission and power is sent to the rear wheels. Buyers can also opt for the “4-Matic” variant for all-weather capability. The 4-Matic system is available with all engine options except the base petrol variant.
We expect the new Mercedes C-Class will be available in UAE by the end of this year.
