2022 Audi e-tron GT

Audi has recently unveiled their electric 4-door sedan, the Audi e-tron GT and for the second time, I’ve fallen in love with the design of an Audi. The first being the Audi R8 V8 launched way back in 2006.

While the original Audi R8 had a fresh design, this one looks more evolutionary rather than the tech-savvy and swoopy design of other electric cars.

For me, the electric drivetrain of the Audi e-tron GT is not its highlight. For me, it is how Audi has designed its electric sedan. The design of both the exterior and the interior is not electric car like- everything is conventional in its design.

As we know both Audi and Porsche are owned by Volkswagen, powering the Audi e-tron is a familiar 800-Volt architecture as seen in the Porsche Taycan.

The Audi e-tron GT gets a 93.4kW Lithium-ion battery as standard and all that energy is sent to two electric motors placed on each axle. The motor placed at the rear is rated at 435hp whereas the motor at the front axle is capable of 238hp, but the combined peak output of the Audi e-tron GT is limited to 475hp and 630Nm of torque.

A boost function can be used to increase the total output to 522hp for a short while, with the boost function, Audi claims a 0-100kph time of 4.1sec.

The estimated range is expected to be around 383km under EPA standards, which is about 18 kms more than Porsche Taycan 4S.

The Audi e-tron GT range starts from USD 99,000 in the USA, which is fairly cheaper than similarly equipped Porsche Taycan. Expect it to cost a little more when it hits the Arabian shores.
