The best way to improve your car.

Do you think that your car came with the best set of tyres in the market? If you think so, then I must wake you up from the dreamland.

Few manufactures like Bugatti, Koenigsegg, McLaren give you bespoke tyres designed to suit the inherent traits of the vehicle.

Automotive companies are essentially large corporates which are not run by enthusiasts but by people who see the world in numbers.

Tyres are often overlooked by amateur enthusiasts and mechanics in a quest to improve the car. One can easily make vast improvements in ride comfort, fuel economy or even performance by changing the stock tyres.

Economy cars from Japan are often plagued by the use of cheap and skinny tyres to achieve marginally higher fuel economy. Whereas few German cars are hard riding due to the use of run-flat tyres. These problems can be easily rectified by changing tyres.

Selecting tyres can be very confusing but at the end of the day it boils down to your driving style and preferences. This does not mean fitting slick tyres to your Honda Civic because you are a fan of Formula 1.

Understand your requirements, prioritise your preference according to your usage and environment.

For example, If you are using a Land Cruiser but you use it more on highways, It is better to use H/T tyres (Highway-Terrain tyres) rather than using aggressive looking M/T tyres (Mud Terrain tyres) as they tend to have higher rolling resistance, produce more tyre noise and have less grip on roads.

Cars like Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla can be made more sporty or less noisy with a simple tyre swap. Then there are ‘low rolling resistance tyres which are made specifically to improve the fuel economy.
