Fiat 500e and 500e Action.

Fiat 500 is one of my all-time favourite hatchbacks, despite the model which I drove was an economy version. The Fiat 500 is one of those cars that refused to be measured by yardsticks, it was as if the car was alive and had a beating heart instead of an engine.

It is not only the engine, but the whole package felt alive. The suspension and steering will constantly engage in a chat with you, but never will you feel annoyed.

The entire car will feel like an extension of your body in a short span. It was not perfect either- it has its own share of niggles and faults, which made it more like a person than a machine.

Now, there is a new Fiat 500 and it is powered by electricity rather than dead dinosaurs. Despite being electric, Fiat has not made drastic changes to make it feel like a car from the future.

The design is overall evolutionary, making the new Fiat 500e modern yet true to its root-design. The new Fiat 500e is powered by a single electric motor producing 118hp and 220Nm of torque.

Being electric, the maximum torque is available from the moment you dab the accelerator pedal. 0-100kph is achieved under 9 seconds and onto a top speed of 150kph.

The electricity for the motor is stored in a 42kWh battery, out of which 37.3kWh is usable. The battery can be charged from 0-80% capacity in under 35 minutes when plugged into an 85kW fast charger.

The WLTP range for the new Fiat 500e is around 320kms, which is more than enough juice for a week’s office commute for most people.

Priced around $31,500* Fiat 500e is priced just right for the new environmentally conscious buyers.

There is a cheaper version priced around $27,500* called Fiat 500e action.

However, unlike its name, it is less suitable for any action with its 94hp motor paired to 23.8kWh battery. The claimed range is also considerably low due to smaller battery at just 185kms, which makes for a strict city car.
