New VW Golf R and Golf GTI Club Sport
We have been waiting quite anxiously for the launch of hot, hotter and hottest versions of the 8th gen VW Golf ever since its launch a year ago. Atlas, the wait is almost over.
The hottest version is the all-wheel drive VW Golf R which can sprint from 0-100kmph in just 4.9 seconds. Enabling this performance is a 2.0L turbocharged engine with 315hp and 420Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or optional 7-speed DSG unit. Power is sent to all-four wheels via VW’s 4Motion AWD unit, in which the rear differential is tuned to send up to 100% of torque to outer wheels in ‘drift’ mode. Other modes include Comfort, Sports, Race, and Individual.VW Golf R might be the hottest, fastest, and meanest version of the VW Golf but VW Golf GTI has the most fan base due it’s front wheel drive layout which is a characteristic trait of hot hatches since their introduction.
The hotter version of the VW Golf GTI is the VW Golf GTI Club Sport. The Club Sport version of the GTI is just over 20hp short of VW Golf R’s peak power, making it just as potent and but more characterful due its front-wheel drive layout. Just like many other FWD hot hatches, VW Golf GTI Club Sport also uses a trick differential to split the torque between the front wheels to maximise traction at all times. If you are eyeing for a hot hatch that can put a smile whenever you drive, please be patient as the new VW Golf siblings will be hitting our shores by mid of 2021.Content Creator, MyTyre.
