Hummer was originally a transport
vehicle designed for US Military purposes with some really good off-road
capability and some sensible design traits which allowed the vehicle to fit in
the same track as the M1 Abrams tank.
Despite being a national icon of
the United States, it soon became the target for environmentalists. This
backlash from the environmental groups forced GM to pull the plug on Hummer
brand and its subsequent products.
However, the new Hummer is very
Polar Bear friendly and it is completely electric, which means No petrol or
diesel; just plug it in-recharge and
drive.
The new Hummer is christened as
“Hummer EV” and like the original, this one is also a double cab with a small
loading bay.
Like any iconic remakes, Hummer
EV has also embraced the original Hummer’s design lines but incorporated some
retro-modern design cues to move with the trend.
Like any EV’s, the dashboard is
dominated by two large screens and the interior looks quite plush as well as
sophisticated with sharp lines and angles which mimic the exterior.
The top of the range model will
cost north of $100,000 which is significantly pricier than Tesla’s Cyber Truck.
GM has announced that the new top of the range Hummer EV can do 0-60mph in
under 3.2 seconds and can deliver 1000hp and 15,592Nm of torque when required.
The Hummer EV also packs in 800V
DC fast charging capability which can help the car add 100miles of range in an
approximate 10 mins! The total range of the vehicle is around 350miles.
The new Hummer EV is also capable
off road with 18 cameras helping you place the vehicle through the toughest
terrains, and it can also tackle tricky obstacles with 4-wheel steering which
can help the hummer move diagonally across the terrain.
So, this new Hummer EV is a
winner on paper. What about on the road?
