Bentley Flying Spur V8, is it better than the W12?

Bentley has started accepting booking for the Bentley Flying Spur with a V8 engine in Europe and UK. But why would anybody opt for a cheaper V8 powered Bentley with less power when they are rich enough to afford a Bentley?

We know that the standard W12 Bentley Flying Spur is a straight-line rocket with its launch control and AWD system. This behemoth can outrun many sports cars that cost the same or more money and that too while you are cocooned in the best of automotive luxury.

But Why V8?

The new V8 engine is a 4.0L twin-turbocharged unit with 542bhp and 770Nm torque which is significantly less compared to the full cream W12 variant, but the new V8 Flying Spur is also nearly 100kgs lighter than the W12 variant.

So, what V8 loses out in the straight line, it gains in the corners. With less weight in the front, the suspension can take more cornering force, tyres are less stressed at same speeds in corners and it makes the whole car feel a lot lighter than it is.

Do not think for a moment that they have skimped on luxury; it is just as opulent as before with Crown Cut Walnut wood as standard and 7 other wood trim as options for the dashboard and interior lining. The rear seats can also be specified as a bench or as two individual seats.

This is still a heavy bull but an agile one for the enthusiastic business barons.
